Built for City Growers — Not Country Estate Owners
Most gardening websites are written for people with rolling lawns and giant compost heaps. But at HumusHub, we know that for millions of us in the UK, the “garden” is a balcony, a windowsill, or a community allotment.
We started HumusHub with one goal: to help UK flat-dwellers turn their kitchen waste into Black Gold — without the smell, the mess, or the space requirements of traditional composting. There are a thousand AI-generated review sites out there. We do things differently by leading with genuine, hands-on expertise.
Hands-On Testing
Every product we recommend has been physically tested. We care whether it fits under a standard UK kitchen cabinet, how it handles tea bags and Sunday roast scraps, and whether it actually smells as bad as the reviews say.
Honest Opinions
If a £400 electric composter is just a glorified dehydrator, we’ll say so. If a cheap wormery leaks within a month, you’ll know before you buy it. Our mission is to save you money — not earn a commission at your expense.
UK-Specific Focus
We test products against UK worktop dimensions, price in sterling, and factor in British legislation like the 2026 Simpler Recycling laws. We’re not a US site with a Union Jack slapped on it.

Nathan runs Wormi Vermi — a working Dendrobaena worm farm based in Huddersfield, selling live composting worms to gardeners and axolotl keepers across the UK. He’s farmed millions of worms and has watched countless indoor systems succeed and fail in real conditions.
That’s not something you can learn from a product listing. When Nathan says a wormery is too wet, too cold, or badly ventilated — he’s talking from direct experience with the biology, not a YouTube video. It’s what makes HumusHub’s worm content genuinely different from every other review site in this space.
He built HumusHub because the UK composting advice online was either written for people with half-acre gardens, or written by people who’d never actually kept a worm. Neither was any use to someone living in a Manchester flat with a south-facing balcony and a bag of coffee grounds.

We only recommend gear we would — and often do — use ourselves. Here’s exactly how we test.
We buy or borrow the product. No free samples in exchange for favourable reviews. Ever.
Every unit goes on a real UK worktop. We test it under standard cabinets, with British food waste, over multiple weeks.
For vermicomposting, we draw on our worm farming expertise to assess bedding health, temperature tolerance, and output quality.
We tell you what’s genuinely good, what’s overhyped, and who each product is actually right for. No diplomatic hedging.
